Of Lace and Love: Maternity Photography

“There is a secret in our culture, and it’s not that birth is painful. It’s that women are strong.” ~ Laura Stavoe Harm

I have always been drawn to maternity photography. I think it's the secret that all mamas hold inside, something that only they really know. They carry the burden of the pregnancy psychically, but they also carry the weight of becoming a mother, responsible for the birthing of a new generation. The care, protection, and undying love for their new child is unexplained in words. But oh, it is seen through the lens of the camera! Every expecting mama truly has that pregnancy "glow."

This beautiful teal blue gown has a sheer flowing dress and can be layered with other dresses underneath!

This new dijon colored gown shown below on this slideshow, is the perfect match on a black background. Add in fresh roses and I think she looks like Disney's Belle! Isn't she stunning?

Finally, I was so excited to study under one of my favorite maternity photographers, Eden Bao at Imaging USA this past January in Nashville. She is so inspiring! It was such an honor to meet her and have her evaluate my work one on one and even practice with a live model. She taught us a lot of technical details to watch for to make mama look beautiful, as well as lighting, posing, and so much more! I have definately found my style and love a more edgy, and vintage Hollywood look with my maternity photography.

Birth is beautiful, miraculous, yet messy and mysterious. With this photo session, I also tried a little edgier look with the black lace gown and I love how it came out. If you are looking for a maternity photographer in the Mid- Michigan area, I would be honored to be a part of your story!
