I’m gearing up! It’s that time of the year here in central Michigan for a professional photographer and I can’t wait! This weekend I’m hoping to get together for a shoot with one of our senior models. We'll put some of our crazy ideas into action. We’ll generate some clips for Instagram and Tik Tok. But most of all I will have some fun!
I’m allowed to goof off with teenagers as long as I call it “marketing”. Seriously though, collaborating with teenagers was one of my favorite things to do. Before I was a professional photographer, I had a job (actually more than one job) that involved helping high schoolers make videos.
With the recent pandemic, there’s been less face-to-face time and I’ve missed it greatly. It brin
gs me great joy to swap ideas with senior clients. It makes me happy when they dig out their phone to show me something they saw on Instagram and I can tell them “yeah, I can do that.” Even more so when they tell me about their lives and I suggest ideas to tell their story which get an excited smile and a “That would be cool!”
Last night, I had a brainstorming session with a 2022 senior. She was showing me this cool grove of trees in her backyard and we were trading ideas. I was on top of the world!
It made me nostalgic. I’ve been sifting through photos of past model team members. Remembering shoots. And smiles. And I can’t wait to do it all over again this year!
I laughed out loud when I found a picture I took of a senior's dog. I remember taking the shot while rolling backwards to avoid my lens getting licked by the friendly puppy!
So, if you send me a message and I say “I can’t wait to talk to you.” I mean it. My wife and I mean that sincerely. Getting to know you is maybe my favorite part of the job. Well, hearing you say, “That’s so cool!” when you see your images is pretty great too.
